Under the Style

Hey party people,
So I'm sitting here, 10pm on a Sunday night, and what am I doing you may ask? Watching the Little Mermaid of course (thank you, ABC Family). Also thanks to the channel guide, I found out that this movie was made in 1989, (hey T-Swift hey), which makes it older than I am! So this got me thinking, what would Ariel wear today if she could live on land in 2015? I mean she totally rocked that sheet-and-rope look, but I personally think she could do better than that. So, I grabbed my dinglehopper and my snarfblat and got to work. Heres what I came up with:

My idea was definitely a very updated version of our classic Ariel that we know and love. Even though she's a princess, I could see her rocking this look walking on the beach with Eric, running around after Scuttle, walking down the street, walking around the palace...did I mention walking??? In all seriousness, I was inspired by her green mermaid tail to incorporate these green high waisted shorts, paired with a very nautical white collared shirt. A fedora (I don't know why, but i peg Ariel for a fedora girl), sunnies and purple gemmed sandals complete her human look.

I'm off to finish watching the Little Mermaid! Goodnight and sweet dreams my fellow mermaids xxx

Uniformly Different

Unfortunately, many of us are stuck with a strict dress code at our jobs, which is the ultimate annoyance to any fashion student. At my job, its either all black, or a white top with black bottoms. My mom laughs every time she sees my closet or does my laundry- I've been at my job for about 8 months and about 3/4 of my wardrobe now is black. Here are a few ways I try to look cute in dress code:

When I'm feeling a bit girly, I usually go for a well-shaped black dress and a black lace kimono over it. Its simple and stylish, but still complies with the dress code (knee length skirt, shoulders covered). Cute black strappy sandals complete the look, along with some bright lips for a pop of color. Also not the clear clutch, a necessity for retailers that require its employees to carry their items in clear bags.

This outfit is for days that I want to be professional, but comfy. Simple black skinny trousers, a white flow-y tank and a black cardigan are the perfect go-to outfit. Black flats are comfortable for being on your feet all day, and the red lipstick will be sure to get you compliments (its basically the only thing standing out in your outfit). This outfit is a dress code no-brainer.

New Line Alert! Milly for Kohl's

Okay, when I first heard about this collection, I was definitely a lot more excited than I probably should have been.  Milly is a favorite designer of mine, and my sister was actually lucky enough to attend one of her shows during Fashion Week NYC. So, when we heard that Milly was doing a line for Kohl's, a store that we frequent with coupon and credit card in hand, we ran. The line is inspired by Capri, Italy, and have a nautically chic vibe to them. The only disappointment we found in the collection was that it only went up to a size 12 in stores, surprising for the Kohl's demographic. I only wound up getting one tee shirt, but might order a few pieces online. Here are a few of my favorite looks from the line:

Striped Fit and Flare Dress:

Striped Pleated Shirt Dress:

Floral Midi Scuba Dress:

Trend Report: Bright Nails

Bright colors for Spring? Groundbreaking. Just like florals, bright colors are a trend that always finds its way back when the weather gets warmer (thank you, Devil Wears Prada, if you didn't get the reference). Working at a makeup store though, I've noticed recently that a lot of our favorite nail polish brands (i.e. OPI, Essie and Zoya) have all come out with amazing lines for Spring. Here is a mini-review of these new collections (Available at Ulta on Long Island, if you want to come visit me).

Hawaii by OPI:

The Hawaii collection by OPI was the first to appear in stores this season out of the three new collections. The colors are tropical, fun and have a relaxed vibe to them. Ranging from bright pinks to mint greens to musty mauves, there is definitely a shade here for everyone (even a special yellow sparkle polish, for your inner sparkle). Overall thoughts? The colors are nice, but I never got the "Ooh I need ALL of these in my collection" feeling, which isn't normal for me. Points for the super creative names though (Is Mai Tai Crooked? Do You Take Lei Away?)

Flowerista by Essie:

Now this collection gave me the "Ooh I need ALL of these in my collection" feeling. The Flowerista collection is a great mix of brights and neutrals, making it the perfect one to splurge on. The bright purple, teal and mint green are gorgeous for Spring, and if you want to really be groundbreaking, use the nude, beige or gray shades to switch it up. Overall thoughts? I would buy this entire collection. They are all super wearable colors that you can interchange when your in a bright mood, or a subtle mood.

Delight by Zoya:

Last but certainly not least, the Delight by Zoya collection. If you want bright colors for Spring, this is the collection for you. Fun, bright and in almost every shade of the rainbow, this range is basically Springtime in a bottle. These polishes are actually a lot brighter in person, and practically irresistible when shopping for new polishes. Overall thoughts? Tbh, I would probably buy this whole collection, too. The colors are so springy and fun and really catch the eye of the consumer. While still being typically Spring, they are still different and stand out from other brands.

Follow-up: Vacation, Disney Style!

Hey loves,
So I just got back to rainy New York from sunny Florida, and I brought back with me some important style tips if you ever decided you wanted to live where its hot and humid everyday (not sure why you would, but I'm here to help, not judge). Thinking that since it was only April, it wouldn't be that hot, I had brought a few cardigans and a denim jacket. Needless to say, I did not wear any of them. Honestly, the least amount of clothing you can wear, the better. I wore mostly just shorts, a tank top and sandals most days and was still pretty hot all day. Down below I'll put some examples of similar outfits to the ones I wore when I went to Disney.

Overall, the best advice I got (albeit, a little too late) was from my boyfriend, who lived in Florida the first 8 years of his life: No shirt, no shoes, just shorts.

Day: This was one of my favorite outfits that I wore to Animal Kingdom. It was comfortable, cute and kept me as cool as possible. Winner. Shirt and shorts are from Kohl's, backpack is from Target and I wore similar sandals from Forever 21.

Night: I wore this look to a dinner and shopping night at Downtown Disney. I felt cute and stylish, but still comfortable and weather-appropriate, since it was a little bit cooler at night. Crop top and skirt are from Kohl's, sandals are from Target, and while I wish I had these Fendi sunglasses, I wore a similar pair from Ulta.
