Today's blog post takes its inspiration from the 1960's…and not the 1960's you probably remember. In 1962, artist Andy Warhol created The Factory- a place for artists of all kinds to gather and work on their latest projects. The type of people that gathered here weren't your typical 1960's housewife- they were the epitome of anti-fashion and rebellion. Andy Warhol's muse, Edie Sedgwick, really led this revolution away from the bright colors of the '60's, to a dark, edgy color palette. She inspired with black and white stripes, oversized blazers and pants (pants on woman- in the '60's??!?!? Impossible.) and joined with people like Twiggy to start a fashion overhaul.
Styling a photo shoot with this inspiration would call for a lot of black, leather, stripes and scary tall heels. The makeup would be dark, with heavy eyeliner and a mix of bright lips and nude lips. The shoot would be done inside of an old, run down factory, as well as the facade of the building (brick, graffiti, the works). Models such as Rihanna and Cara Delevingne would be ideal for the tomboy, edgy look. Here are three looks that I would style for this shoot:
Look #1:
Look #1 is a sexy and edgy take on Edie Sedgwick's iconic look. The lace bralet underneath the oversized blazer pair perfectly with the loose, patched boyfriend jeans which are trending for spring. The sky high ankle cuff stilettos pair well with this outfit to give it a dressier vibe. Dark lips and smoky eyes paired with long, messy locks complete a strong statement outfit. This outfit would be worn by Cara Delevingne because of her sporty figure and messy hair.

Look #2 is a girlier version of Sedgwick's look. The striped crop top pairs perfectly with this edgy, zippered leather mini. The black netted booties complement the outfit and will make the models legs look 10 miles long. This studded Alexander McQueen clutch adds a toughness to the outfit, and paired with short blonde hair adds a unique touch. The red lips are the pop of color to this black and white outfit and would look great on any model.

Look #3:
Look #3 most resembles an outfit that Edie Sedgwick would wear back in the '60's. She was known for her tight leather pants, boxy tops and oversized patterned jackets. She helped introduce the ballet flat into everyday women's wear, and this D'Orsay cut gives them a modern touch. Paired with a long, brown ponytail, cat eye sunglasses and nude lips, I think that Rihanna could change up her look and rock this outfit.

I love how you styled look 1 with the bralet mixed with the blazer and boyfriend jeans. I have started seeing many variations of this outfit trending more and more and I think the contrast between the skimpy bralet paired with the oversized blazer really emphasizes a masculine yet still feminine look.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite look out of the three is definitely the last one. I love the other two because they are so edgy; however, the third one is definitely more my style. It is very classic with the leather jeans and white crop top but the coat makes it more chic.I also love that you chose a nude lipstick rather than a bold one because this way the look is more cohesive.
I absolutely love look #1..I think you nailed that outfit and kept to your theme of Edie Sedgwick inspiration. That look is so NY to me and it fits what I think of when I think of Andy Warhol and fashion in the 60's...well done!!
